September 25th- National Public Lands Day. Last year we and about 80 others joined the BLM at Lake Selmac to clean up the site, pull weeds, plant native species and repair trails. Programs
Clean Up Program- This program sees community members involved in helping to clean up illegal dumpsites on public lands. Metals are recycled. Lands are left in a natural state.
Restoration Program- This program focuses on the removal of invasive plants and the planting of native plants. This Restoration program follows the removal of invasives, and/or the clean up program, and involves the planting of native plants where possible in areas where plants have been destroyed either by illegal dumping or invasives.
Trail Work Program- The maintaining of local trails. Trash removal, weed control and repair of washed out trails are performed.
Education Program- Visiting local grade schools and talking to children about the importance of environmental stewardship. This program shows the effects that dumping can have on the environment, wildlife, and our drinking water. Mascots Brady Bear and The Litter Bug make an appearance and a story booklet with Brady Bear and The Litter Bug are handed out.
Anti-Dumping and Monitoring Measures- After cleaning up a dumpsite, Clean Forest Projects implements anti-dumping measures such as signage and monitoring of the site. This helps to curb re-dumping.
Green Teams/High School Program- Local teens will form teams at their High School and adopt a dumpsite near their school. They will set a date to clean the site, develop and deploy anti-dumping signage, monitor the site throughout the school year and then report of the events at the end of the school year.
Pick, Pull and Scream- This is our annual cemetary trash clean up and noxious weed pull. The event takes place on or near Halloween at various cemetary's. To host a Pick, Pull and Scream event in your area, please contact our Community Organizer.
Spotters Program- Are you an avid ATV-er? Do you frequently ride your horse on public land? Do you enjoy hiking and enjoying the beauty of our most precious natural resource? Do you come across illegally dumped trash, appliances and even vehicles? One way that you can help Clean Forest Project is to become a volunteer Geo-Spotter. A Geo-Spotter is someone who is literally our eyes in the forest. We need people just like you that recreate on public land that can tell us where there are illegal dumpsites. Clean Forest Project will survey them and schedule them to be cleaned up. Clean Forest Project will support your efforts by providing you with a GPS and a Clean Forest Project T-shirt. You can simply report sites that you find via email with the GPS coordinates. We’ll take it from there. And, as an added benefit, for each site you report, and we survey it, we will send you a free coffee coupon good for a free Latte, Cappuccino or your favorite coffee drink! If you are interested in becoming a Clean Forest Project Geo-Spotter, contact us and ask for our Geo Spotter Volunteer Application. Soon, you can be on your way to helping us cleanup your favorite public land spot!
